Economic forecasts remain stable for China, keeping fundamentals in relatively good shape in front of the crisis. According to research figures provided by Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Bank (as of March 2009), China’s GDP grew 9% in 2008 and is expected to reach an overall growth of about 8% for the whole of 2009.
With its high competition for market shares, China’s dynamic and fast-developing market has driven global players to spend huge marketing budgets to advertise their products, services, and activities in the PRC. Indeed, in the first eight months of the Olympic year 2008, a total of RMB 333 billion has been spent on advertising in China, a 17% increase on a year-on-year basis (The Nielson Company, September 2008).
