Welcome Note by the Congress President
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the ISFG Executive Committee and the Local Organizing Committee, it is a great honour for me to invite you- and any professional or student who shares our mutual interest in Forensic Genetics- to the 23th World Congress of the International Society for Forensic Genetics to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from September 23 to 26, 2009. A wide variety of theoretical and practical topics and technological advances in the field of Forensic Genetics will be addressed within the plenary sessions, oral presentations and posters. The Congress will consist of a series of plenary sessions without simoltanoeus sessions. This way, all participants will be able to attend 100% of the events, if they wish to do so.
Due to its length (more than 3500 km) and breadth (1400 km) Argentina offers a variety of climates and landscapes, from warm in the north, to cold in the south, from mountains in the west to coasts in the east. The weather is usually very nice during the spring season, not only in the city of Buenos Aires but also in the northern and southern areas of the country. The immense variety of tourist attractions tempt anyone to stay a bit longer than expected- or even arrive a few days before the Congress begins- to see the colorful Noerthwest plateaus, visit the forests and glaciers in Patagonia, take a rest near the tropical Iguazú Falls, or just wander for a few hours in Buenos Aires and have a “bife” in one of its traditional “parrillas”, visit its picturesque fairs or go shopping in one of its shopping malls or commercial centers.
The Hilton Hotel is situated in the downtown Puerto Madero District, one of the newest and most picturesque neighborhoods in the city, a few blocks away from the financial district, and a short walk to prominent tourist attractions, limitless restaurants and nightlife, with quick access routes to both domestic and international airports.
We hope that the meeting will not only be a time for sharing and learning, but also an enriching experience in the human aspect as it will be a new opportunity to spend a pleasant time with our colleagues from all over the world, to share our mutual interest in scientific topics, and to see Argentina’s beautiful landscapes and sense the cordiality of its people.
